Apart, Henrik Schwarz and Jesse Rose are two of the finest auteurs of the past half-decade in house and techno. Rose was one of the pioneers of fidget house in the mid-’00s – a style that continues to be felt on the top of the charts even now – but it’s his ability to seamlessly blend everything from electro to rap to Afropop that’s characterized his music, not to mention a no-nonsense banging bassline (or several), that places it firmly at the center of the dance floor. Gui Boratto

It’s hard not to think of Gui Boratto as one of the most serious and intense musicians and producers out there. The deep contemplation of his three albums, Royal House (Trama, 2004), Chromophobia (Kompakt, 2007), and, most recently, Take My Breath Away (Kompakt, 2009) is hard to ignore and even more difficult to not to let consume you. Syncopated rhythms, densely packed beats, heavily layered synthesizer riffs, and swooning bass and guitar melodies make all his work undeniably complex and indisputably moving. (More …)

Carl Craig

Detroiter Carl Craig continues to be one of world’s most respected producer/DJs. Since he started producing at the end of the ’80s under a myriad of aliases, Craig has created works that have not only influenced the world of techno, but that of soul, hip-hop, drum and bass, and jazz. Craig continues to release his own music and the music of other artists on his labels Planet E and Community Projects. Recent projects include EPs from Vince Watson and Reade Truth as well as remixes of Craig’s “Angel” from Jerome Sydenham. Craig is also one of the most in-demand remixers in the world, having reworked tracks for over 100 acts including LCD Soundsystem, Tori Amos and more recently UNKLE. He even received a Grammy nomination for his remix of Junior Boys’ “Like a Child”. (More …)
