Daughter

Initially starting out as a solo singer-songwriter, Elena Tonra and her haunting voice were joined by Igor Haefeli (guitar) & Remi Aguilella (percussion) to become Daughter last year. Currently smouldering across the UK (and further) blogosphere, they’re at the forefront of the ethereal folk wave that’s cresting over us at the beginning of 2012. (More …)

TEETH

TEETH are Ximon a.k.a. Babes (laptop), Veronica So (vocals) and Simon (drums). Originally just Ximon and Veronica who were more performance art than band, they recruited Simon to be a bit more serious. From east London’s Dalston area, they’ve been compared to Crystal Castles because it’s easy to do that. (More …)

Zulu Winter

As I sat down with Zulu Winter they seemed reassuringly honest. Only forming earlier this year, they have received plaudits from the right places, and the assembled group of five friends were relaxed together, discussing their first bit of bad press. (More …)

Spoek Mathambo

I was more than a little excited to meet Nthato Mokgata, aka Cape Town, South Africa’s resident master rapper/DJ Spoek Mathambo, but I didn’t realize I was so excited that I would commit this detestable fashion faux pas: light brown belt and checkered black-and-white shoes? What the hell was I thinking?! (More …)

Bad Guys

Bad Guys are Stuart (vocals), PJ (baritone guitar), Dave (guitar) and Mark (drums) and they’ve been going for about two years. Their first gig was a ‘pop-up’ show in a packed chalet at ATP and as PJ says, “We didn’t really have any songs back then but just wanted to make a racket and show everyone a good time (More …)

2manydjs

There’s no point in doing a long introduction on Stephen and David Dewaele – the brotherly force behind Soulwax and 2manydjs. You all know who they are. ’SUP went around to their apartment in Shoreditch, east London during a typical English summer torrential downpour to have a chat about what and where they were up to with Radio Soulwax – their enormous online visual and audio production of their entire record collection (and we’re streaming the exclusive Under The Covers 2 part of Radio Soulwax at the bottom of this interview). (More …)

Kurt Vile

Kurt Vile is something of an old soul. Well, musically, anyway. Accumulating fans like Kim Gordon, J Mascis and Thurston Moore takes some skill, but he has done just that. Vile’s music is that timeless sort of guitar music that will always be here, it will always exist and people will always gravitate towards it. (More …)

Morning Parade

Morning Parade are a five-piece indie rock outfit heralding from an area just outside of the UK’s capital in what’s known disparagingly and a little bit accurately as the ‘armpit of London’, it’s the bit just north of where the folks from The Only Way Is Essex live. (More …)
